    A-Lib 2.0: New Avatar Academic Libraries with Web 2.0 Applications

    The web has seen the explosion of social networking tools, which are empowering ordinary people to connect, collaborate and contribute in a global collaboration. These social software applications are now the hottest properties of the Internet users. This article explains the how Web 2.0 tools could be applied in academic libraries to convert them as A-Lib 2.0 or Academic Library 2.0. The paper further includes a few cases from different libraries which have already adopted these new services. One recent survey found that 34.41% of total academic libraries in New York State are using Web 2.0 Services; the major ones include IM, Blogs, RSS, Book marking, Wiki, Social Networks, etc. Library 2.0 has changed the traditional way of thinking about the profession where library only engage in creating the content and services for user shifted to the side of user where librarian will enable user to create them for themselves

    LIS Open Access Institutional Digital Repositories in OpenDOAR: an appraisal

    Open access has gained a huge popularity in the forms of open access journals and open access repositories due to the advent of Internet. In the arena of open world open access digital repositories are platforms in which everyone may deposit, search and retrieve digital content from anytime anywhere in the world. The paper tries to evaluate the open access digital repositories in the field of Library and information Science available in OpenDOAR (Directory of Open Access Repository). In this paper the researchers found 126 open access repositories in Library and Information Science available in OpenDOAR. The paper also tries to find out find out the Open Access Repositories in Library and Information Science available in OpenDOAR and evaluate the generic and technical features of them as per items, language, country, repository type, content, software, operational status, etc. For this purpose, 126 websites of open access repositories in Library and Information Science concerned have been taken and after surveying these open access repositories in Library and Information Science, the content analysis has been done in respect of generic and technical features. After analysis it is found that almost all open access digital repositories in the field of Library and Information Science available in OpenDOAR are indexed in English language and some of them are bilingual. It is also observed that open source softwares like Eprints and Dspace have been exploited in a large scale to create open access digital repositories in the field of Library and information Science indexed in OpenDOAR

This exploratory study will investigate the adoption rate of social media as an innovative medium to deliver services, explores influencing factors and examines the effectiveness of using social media tools in Indian business school libraries for the benefits of users. Findings demonstrate the approaches, strategies, and challenges of adopting social media for the benefits of library users. The present study, with its ambit, has included Academic Business School Libraries based on the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the year 2018. The finding of the study reveals that innovation has a significant influence in library marketing in respect of adopting and implements social media among business school libraries. The outcomes suggest that libraries should follow evidence-based, innovative practices for effectively implementing social media for the more significant benefit of patrons in a collaborative online environment

    Perceptions of Scholarly Publishing in Open Access Routes: A Survey of LIS Professionals in Odisha

    The main purpose of this study is to determine the perception of open access system among the library professionals, and the factors they consider while selecting open access journals for publication. The both printed and online questionnaire was designed for data collection. A total of 116 LIS (Library and Information Science) professional’s responses were collected through both online and offline questionnaire from different academic libraries in Odisha. The study shows that majority of the LIS professionals of different academic institutions of Odisha are aware about open access routes. The results of the study revealed that majority of respondents are aware about open access routes and they have considered open access publication as Scholarly Literature. But majority of authors do not support to pay Article Processing Charges (APC) for getting their research papers published through Open Access journals

    Web Literacy of Postgraduate students of Sambalpur University: An Analysis

    Web literacy, is a collection of skills, might be considered the point where computer literacy merges with information literacy. The present study is a questionnaire based survey of 200 post graduate students of Sambalpur University about their knowledge of the Web and its use. The study found that 44% students conceive web as a huge database of information; 60.5% feel that websites or portals are the vital source of web information; 96% search the web though Google. Further, the study explores the hindrances to Web literacy at the institutional level and suggests measures to enhance the use of web by the students
